The Last of the Summer Fruits

Ahhh...fresh seasonal fruits.

It's that time of year when I get ready to change my summer menu to a fall menu. Some desserts are taken off and replaced with more seasonal items. This morning I had to pick up some ingredients for a few cakes I'm making over the next couple of days and I found some beautiful strawberries, raspberries and blackberries that I needed to decorate a white chocolate cheesecake. I think this will probably be one of the last cheesecakes decorated with fresh seasonal fruit until next spring--it almost makes me a little sad, like having to say good-bye to a good friend. But then I think about all the great fall desserts that will be coming back on the menu and it's OK.

I've had to push back the bread baking for a couple of days and once I finish up the cake orders I have, then I will be able to bake some yummy bread (I have a couple of recipes from the BBA book in mind).

On top of the cheesecake is a layer of sweetened whipped cream and decorated with fresh fruits; champagne grapes, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, green & red grapes.

  1. Boy oh boy, that looks SOOOO GOOOD!!!! I hate to say goodbye to the berries too...We live 7 minutes - 15 minutes drive from the berry farms. Every year, we go out and pick them weekly. And gets very sad at the end of the summer...esp. since Yesmin and I are allergic to fresh apples and pears... *sigh*

  5. GASP! That is so ridiculously beautiful, and I've been really into cheesecake AND white chocolate lately, so I might be dreaming about this tonight. I guess this means that summer's really over, huh?

  6. Jenny: How fun to be so close to the berry farms! So fall fruits aren't really your time of year (bummer)--what kinds of fall pies do you like instead?

    Lauren: I won't tell. :)

    Katie: Thanks!

    Danny: I'll see what I can do--ha ha! :)

Msmeanie: The bread recipes are coming soon.

Amy: Thanks! I know, kinda sad that summer is over.

  7. I know...it's so difficult to move away from this area!! 10 minutes to the farms, 30 minutes to the city!!!! What else can you ask for right?! I love all the fall pies/tarts, esp. apple and the pears --- as long as they are cooked, we won't get the itch! :)
